About Low Vision Works, LLC

Low Vision Works® and Low Vision Works Consulting Group were created in 2001 by renowned Macular Degeneration & Low Vision Occupational Therapist, Michele A. Vandendooren. A vision care specialist with more than 20 years of leading-edge clinical and management experience and well over 20,000 patient-treatments, Michele is respected authority in Low Vision care.

Michele earned her degree from the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. She has practiced in western Canada and in throughout the states, from Hawaii to Florida. Her areas of practice have included: low vision, geriatrics, orthopedics, neurology and pediatrics.

While working with a global eye care company, Michele became aware that there were many people in desperate need of low vision occupational therapy rehabilitation. Recognizing that resources for low vision rehabilitation were scarce, Michele found it difficult knowing there were people with visual impairment not receiving the assistance they so vitally require.

Michele has dedicated herself to meeting this need and helping individuals with vision impairment maximize their potential and overcome the challenges of daily life.

Ms. Vandendooren is also a familiar speaker at ophthalmologic meetings and conferences, national and state blindness conventions and Rehabilitation Services Administration Program Manager’s conference in Washington, D.C. Ms. Vandendooren was also the host of a local television program, Living with Low Vision.

Our Goal

At Low Vision Works, our goal is to help individuals with vision loss regain confidence and function safely and independently in their daily lives.

We accomplish this by maximizing remaining visual function, promoting multisensory integration, and incorporating appropriate adaptive tools and technology to support functional independence. Through occupational therapy, we reinforce existing skills and teach new strategies tailored to each person’s goals and environment. Our interventions are guided by evidence-based protocols and focus on meaningful, real-world activities to support independence, safety, and improved quality of life.
